Book Review: Scattered Showers by Rainbow Rowell

Published on 13 October 2024 at 19:33

A collection of short stories, focusing on love and relationships and everything inbetween.

Synopsis:

In her first collection, she gives us nine beautifully crafted love stories. Girl meets boy camping outside a movie theatre. Best friends debate the merits of high school dances. A prince romances a troll. A girl romances an imaginary boy. And Simon Snow himself returns for a holiday adventure.

Review:

Short story collections are not normally something I end up loving very much, I always find that there's those couple of stories that you love and the rest end up being mediocre, kind of like they've been thrown in there to make up the numbers. This collection was not like this. I think I got some level of enjoyment from every single story and some of them I loved. Each one is a new love story, some of them unconventional, some of them fantasy, some of them nerdy. It's important to note that one of them even followed Simon & Baz from the Simon Snow series, which I read last year and absolutely fell in love with so getting to read from these characters again, no matter for how short, gave me all the feels. It was a cute, quick read and just made me fall in love with the work of Rainbow Rowell even more. This is one I'd definitely come back to in the future, when I just need something comforting.
